Lowery Ltd – Civils, Signalling & Power – Bridge Works Complete HS2 Enabling Works (Birmingham SAS13)

Following months of careful planning Lowery’s Signalling Stage works Design, Comms, P/way & Civils departments came together to enable the replacement of the SAS Bridge 13 over the Derby Lines at Birmingham delivering this significant Milestone for Skanska’ HS2 Project at Birmingham.

Lowery was contracted by Skanska to plan & design the signalling & P/way track enabling/protection works for the Bridge replacement. This scope involved removing critical signalling equipment, PoE,  & track circuits, along with placing route bars on the interlocking from WM SC & protecting all the remaining infrastructure at site with 1500 ton of track ballast & 2000 Ali Trak mats laid during the bridge replacement operation to provide a temporary path for the SPMT’s to manoeuvre the new 2,600-ton bridge into its final position over the Derby Lines. All Lowery’s respective depts worked shifts around the clock over abnormal weeks 4, 5 & 6 possessions to deliver the bridge replacement on time.

During the week 6 possession bridge replacement possession Lowery removed all the 1500 ton of track ballast, whilst recommissioning all the respective track assets back into service allowing the Main Derby Lines to open as planned on Monday morning with no delays to service.

Most importantly all works were completed without any recorded accidents or incidents.

Many thanks to our client Skanska and of course a big thank you to all the Lowery departments involved to make this project milestone a success.
