Project update for 132kV Iver Substation

Delivery of M&E installation at Iver, Buckinghamshire for our client continues a-pace, with the novel and sustainable g3 switchgear now beginning to be installed on-site. This will be one of the first handful of units to be gassed with g3, a much more environmentally friendly SF6 substitute. SF6 is used in most GIS Switchgear in the UK and globally.

Lowery is now installing the 32 GIS g3 bays in a double busbar configuration with accompanying CRMS to National Grid and SSE standards with a 40-year life.

Note: g3 has a reduced GWP (Global Warming Potential) of more than 99% compared to SF6 which has a GWP 24,300 times greater than CO2 and a lifetime in the atmosphere of 1,000 years, putting it at the top of the Kyoto Protocol list.
