London Trams Award Lowery Ltd Contract for Replacement of the EM3 Cabinets and LV Substation Boards
Lowery has been competitively selected by Transport for London (TfL) as service provider for carrying out works consisting of the replacement of EM3 cabinets and LV distribution boards across the London Trams network. This replacement and renewal programme will support both resilience of passenger services operations for the tram network and increase public safety around plant assets.
EM3 Cabinets hold low voltage power distribution equipment that provide electrical supply to the various assets associated with track-side cabling, feeder pillars (REC), power cabinets, tram stops, lighting and power, associated inter-tripping, comms supplies, tunnel lighting, DC power supply and the cables for monitoring stray currents. For the LV substations, surveys and value engineering challenges will determine renewal requirements whilst maintaining BS7671 compliance. Both sets of assets date to the original construction of the London Trams network and require renewal.
On behalf of TfL, Lowery will be working as both Principal Designer and Principal Contractor to complete the works. Design, managed through Lowery’s in-house design resources, is supported by boutique electrification design house Phase Design & Engineering. Works will take around 13 months to complete.
Mark Gubbins, Managing Director for Lowery, stated: “I’m pleased to expand our working relationship with London Trams, following significant investment in accrediting specialist Trams-ticketed power personnel, and look forward to our delivery of safe, high-quality works for TfL.”
